Inspiration for my textile, paper and silk fibre pieces comes from the natural world, archaeological remains, rockart, literature and the human form.

Following an administrative career in the City of London, I took up textile design and screen-printing in the late 80s, followed by batik, felt- and papermaking.  My work as a textile and paper artist began in earnest in 1993 when I started experimenting with commercially available papers which I worked into collage and 3D forms.

My love of hand-made paper and silk fibre led to my present work which often unites paper and metal, a combination which explores the physical properties of each material while balancing their respective characteristics.  It is held in private collections in the UK, France and Germany and can be viewed on the Crafts Council’s National Register of Makers, London.  It has also been published in Artists and Illustrators Magazine, Fiberarts Design Book Six, Batik for Artists and Quilters, Papermaking Techniques, Batik Transitions from Classic to Contemporary, and SATURA , the Italian cultural magazine.

I have exhibited widely in group shows throughout the UK, and had solo exhibitions at the Barbican Centre, London and Trinity Arts Centre, Tunbridge Wells.

I am particularly drawn to the process of decay, whether found in the rain forest or in man-made structures.  The disintegration of organic matter and material objects, which are subject to an ever-changing mix of colour, texture and shape, offer the opportunity to explore the creative potential of the mediums used.  My work is as much a metaphor for the “wetness” of the papermaking process as it is for the life in flux and how time changes matter.
