Paintings in various media, celebrating colour, texture and composition. Knitted and crochet accessories. Spinning and rag rug demos. Handmade and printed cards.
Painting and textiles are my chosen means of expression. They sometimes run in parallel, sometimes one takes over for a while. Through them, I like to convey my excitement about life, colour, shapes and texture.
In life as in art, I try to steer a course towards certain goals, while allowing for the unplanned and incidental to come into play. The result is often a mix of initiative and surrender.
Although I have always loved drawing, painting and making textiles, I spent the first 25 years of my life earning a living in other disciplines. Then, I decided it was time to become creative in a much fuller way and share my love of art with others.
I paint landscapes and still lifes in pastels and acrylic, in styles that vary from representational to abstract. I work both on location and in the studio. Paintings completed on site are quick and emotional responses to what I see and feel at the time. Studio paintings take longer to mature, as the thinking process may take months before a painting is finally executed in a day or two.
I find the Open Studios a fun and rewarding experience that gives me the opportunity to greet and chat with people from all walks of life. It also allows me to see other artists’ work during the event and share our experiences.
