I make a range of functional stoneware and decorative raku fired pots, dishes and candlesticks inspired by the beautiful Kentish landscape in which I live.
I attended pottery classes whilst bringing up four children and then became a mature student. After gaining my qualifications I ran a pottery for Kent County Council Social Services and taught ceramics to students with learning difficulties. I am currently a ceramics tutor at Tunbridge Wells Adult Education Centre where I teach a supported learning course.
My current raku fired pots are inspired by natural forms and the Kentish landscape.
The effect obtained with the matt copper glaze sometimes using Acer leaves as a resist is the result of experimentation over a number of years. My latest work is a range of ‘horsehair’ raku vessels glazed with coloured terrasigillata and decorated with carbon imprints of feathers from pet ducks and horsehair from a friend’s horse.
I am an active member of the Kent Potters Association and exhibit with them regularly at ceramic festivals at Hatfield House, Aylesford Priory and Farnham Maltings. My work can be also be seen at the Obsidian Fine Art Gallery in Stoke Mandeville, West End House Gallery in Smarden and the display area in the 18C barn and studio at Cherry Gardens.
