South East Open Studios 4-20 June

The Village Directory, April 2010 (Aldington area)

Mike Tremblay from Brabourne Lees has been an artist for the last five years and has sold internationally. Before turning to painting he explored photography and tapestry. On my visit to his studio recently he showed me one of his tapestries which is reminiscent of his paintings.  Tapestry has allowed him to explore light in a different way to photography. Currently Mike is working with glazing and has been starting with under painting on a variety of different papers and then layering paint on top. His abstract paintings are designed to be looked into and reflected upon.  Mike has also been studying Sumi-e (Japanese brush painting) and will have a number of pictures using this technique completed for his open studio. He has been experimenting with this technique on different types of paper and will be working on some rice paper in time for SEOS. Sumi-e requires specialist brushes and the technique is very controlled.

Mike has also been contributing articles to the Art of England magazine.

Further details of Mike’s studio address and opening hours can be found at: www.seos-art.org or in the guide which will be available from mid-May.
