Artists open doors

This is Kent (newspapers throughout Kent)

In the annual South East Open Studios event, more than 300 painters, sketchers and sculptors from Kent, Sussex and Surrey will spend 17 days showcasing their work to art enthusiasts.

Julie Childs, of Emmetts Lane, Ide Hill, is one of those taking part.

Specialising in painting and the Indonesian art of silk batik, Mrs Childs hopes people will come out in droves when the event starts tomorrow.

She said: "It's great because it shows the local talent and gets people out seeing things they might not normally see.

"It's just a really nice, friendly thing to do."

Mrs Childs lives on a small farm surrounded by rescued animals, something she said provides her with an endless source of inspiration for her work.
No fewer than 39 artists from Sevenoaks and West Malling are taking part in this year's event.

Brochures containing full details have been placed at the Kaleidoscope Library and the Tourist Information Office, both in Suffolk Way, Sevenoaks.
Alternatively visit www.seos-art.org for further details.
South East Open Studios runs until June 20.
