South East Open Studios (SEOS) will be opening their doors on 1st June this year for another 2 week event finishing on the 17th.
Artists and makers in Kent and East Sussex extend an open invitation to visitors to come in and watch them work, buy art and generally talk about the curious and sometimes mysterious processes of making art.
35,000 free full colour Guides will be distributed around Kent and East Sussex in mid-May and locally you will be able to find them in the Kino, the Library, the Spar Shop and the Walled Nursery.
With nearly 300 artists taking part the Guide can be a little daunting so many areas have designed trails that highlight the local artists and the best time to visit all of them. These can be found on the website (www.seos-art.org click on News & Info, Downloads and then scroll down to Other Downloads: Art Trails). There's also a direct link on all main pages- Ed.
Katie Brinsley, based at Duvals Farm in Whites Lane, will be making her range of ceramic tableware. You will see how slip cast ceramics are made and even have a go yourself. This year she has been developing her twist on the traditional jug with individually cast objects ranging from butterflies and hearts to dinosaurs and ships. She will also be including a new butter dish.
2 new artists joining Katie on the 3 Villages Trail (Hawkhurst, Sandhurst and Hurst Green) are Nicola Colbran Freeman and Anne Johnson who are sharing a studio in Stream Lane.
Recently retired make-up artist Nicola started painting again after a long break and loves every moment! Mainly working in oils using various techniques on land and seascapes, portraits, people and animals, inspired by light and nature.
On retiring from teaching Anne hasn’t painted much since school so she joined an art group and is now painting in acrylics. “Mostly I like to paint the sea and the countryside, especially trees and pathways”.
Louisa Crispin, will also be taking part again at the studio at Wilsley Green. Louisa will be adding to her silver demonstrations a range of pencil drawings and etchings. Louisa shares her studio with Wood Engraver Sue Scullard and Watercolour Artist Felicity Flutter. Louisa features on the Wealden Artists Trail alongside your Parish Magazine Designer Kate Chitham whose studio is as Frogshole Farm, Sissinghurst Road, Biddenden.
