Painter Ken Blanshard will be showing his work at Mill Cottage, his Kennington home in Mill Lane, as part of the 2005 South East Open Studios this weekend.
Mr Blanshard is showing landscapes in watercolour, acrylic and pastel, with an eye for light and colour including this stunning work, above, done in Rome.
“In watercolour you can evoke a landscape or location in a couple of hours with washes and a hint of detail. I get totally absorbed – my wife takes a book,” he said.
“I work in acrylics in my studio on larger and more developed pieces. I take masses of photographs on site, capturing light, scene, mood and colour. Now I work a lot in soft pastel. I can achieve a depth of colour, light and texture in a day that would take me weeks in acrylic,” he explained.
Mr Blanshard’s studio will be open tomorrow (Friday), Saturday and Sunday, June 24 to 26.
