Artists open doors to top-brass connoisseur

Kentish Express

Smarden artists Vikki and Chris Furse met a special fan last Thursday when the Lord Lietenant of Kent paid a visit to their studio.

Alan Willett met with Vikki and Chris, along with fellow artists Rib Bloomfield and Mandy Munroe, at the Furse Studios in Smarden Bell Lane to help launch the South East Open Studios programme.

Mrs Furse said “He is such a nice man! Hel told us that his whole family have been artists since the 14th century, though he is the only one who isn’t. But he certainly appreciates art.

“He came down to help promote the programme.

The special programme involves about 290 artists in more than 200 studios opening their doors to the public, from June 10 to 26.

Vikki specialises in portraits, although she has recently produced some Arctic paintings following a visit to Greenland.

Her husband Chris is a bird artist, working in watercolours and pen and ink.

The Furse Studios are open Thursday to Sunday, from June 10-26.

For further information contact Rib Bloomfield on 07770 740559.
