Meet our local artist

Around Borough Green magazine

In recent years, Rosemary has relished trying a variety of different styles and formats. This has led to a host of popular local exhibitions of her work, plus friends and admirers among the local art world. So much so, that Rosemary has ended up as the local editor and co-ordinator of the 'South East Open Studios Guide' - a role which sometimes takes her away from her painting!

Despite an early interest in art, Rosemary's financial pressures meant the commercial world beckoned. After a lengthy spell as a print compositor and then running her own successful graphic design company, Rosemary turned back to art in her mid 50s, studying for her art A levels.

"That was a fantastic opportunity," she said. "It made me examine many different styles and media that I had not even considered before." Experimentation has inspired Rosemary's painting. "One of my most popular styles," she explained, "is a fragmented colourist approach."

However, Rosemary is happy to experiment beyond her 'signature' style. Whether it is mixing paint with sand to get a good effect; creating pictures with 'hidden' chocolate wrappers in order to give reflected light; or applying paint on canvas with a vegetable peeler "because I didn't have a brush to hand," - she creates striking art.

Rosemary currently divides her time between her own painting, helping others with the South East Open Studios (held in June 2007) and charity work for a trust which helps adults with autism.

If any local artists would like to take part in the South East Open Studios, they can apply in January by contacting Rosemary on 01732 780248 or go to www.seos-art.org. Rosemary's work can be seen at www.roseyart.co.uk
