Sculptures and oil paintings depicting country scenes, dancers and animals will be on display in Langton Green as part of the South East Open Studios.

Artist Sandy Holdsworth will be exhibiting her work alongside fellow painter Don Welch at her home on Dornden Drive.

Mrs Holdsworth has been painting all her life and has sold pictures of animal portraits and street scenes to buyers in Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

She said: "We have always had dogs and I love animals. My daughter was in Paris for three and a half years and I loved the buildings there. My family were also builders and architects so I think it has come out in me."

Mr Welch, 81, of College Drive, will be donating all the proceeds from his paintings of landscapes and dancers to Ataxia UK.

The charity supports research into treating the progressive disease, which damages the central nervous system.

His 41-year-old son was diagnosed with ataxia when he was 21.

Mr Welch said: "It has gradually got worse and he now spends much of his time in a wheelchair and has a walking frame."

The South East Open Studios is now in its 11th year with 250 artists, some new and some old hand, covering the region.

Open Studios provides a chance to meet artists informally in their working environment and discuss and buy their work.
