Hawkhurst-based silversmith Louisa Crispin is exhibiting her beautiful jewellery and also introducing people to the art of silversmithing in Benenden, as part of the South East Open Studios.
Louisa is exhibiting in the home of artist Felicity Flutter, where they are also joined by Sue Scullard, who specialises in wood engravings.
Louisa produces handcrafted silver jewellery, which reflects the delicacy and beauty in nature. She has been working with silver for around 13 years, having taken classes in silversmithing, but only launched the business a couple of years ago.
Now her jewellery can be found in galleries around the area, including The Blue Moon Gallery in Camden Road, Tunbridge Wells, and the Liberty Gallery at Kings Hill. She is also happy to take commissions.
South East Open Studios is an annual artist-led event running for two weeks in June and is open to all artists working in Kent and East Sussex. Each year, the number of participating artists has increased, last year totalling more than 250. South East Open Studios is an open invitation to visitors to come in and watch artists at work, ask questions and buy original art.
Over the years, painters have been joined by artists working in other disciplines including furniture-making, ceramics, textiles, sculpture and stained glass.
"I've been a keen visitor to South East Open Studios for the past five or six years," says Louisa. "I took part myself for the first time last year with Felicity and it went really well."
