A programme of art workshops will begin in the fabulous No.1 Smithery Gallery and are inspired by our Autumn art exhibition Resonance and Renewal: Shipbuilding on the Clyde by Sir Stanley Spencer. Lead by professional artists, each specialising in different art mediums, participants can develop existing skills or learn new ones with the expert's guidance. Details about each masterclass can be found below.

Look in new ways, explore the dockyard to create fresh arts work and be creative.

Paul often looks at the work of other artists that inspire him such as Paul Nash, Edward Bawden, Francis Towne and of course Stanley Spencer!

  • St Julians Country Club Gallery 2011

St Julians is a private members club just outside Sevenoaks. Situated on the slope of the greensand ridge in northwest Kent, the house is surrounded by beautiful woodlands and looks out over the Kentish Weald.

As well as being one of our main club rooms, the gallery is used as a showcase for local artists and art groups; we are now booking spaces for 2011. A 20% commission is taken from any sales, but there is no further charge for the use of the room for the show or the private view. Applications are invited for 'one man' or shared shows to be organised by the artists. Alternatively, applications can be made to participate in one of two annual mixed shows, held in mid summer and over the Christmas period.

For more information, please contact Faith Morgan at faithpennick@mac.com.

  • The Working Artist

A workshop will be offered on August 28th at the Wobblybridge Gallery in Tunbridge Wells. Titled "The Working Artist," this class is aimed at both established and emerging artists as well as those considering a career in the arts. We will look at the tools necessary to reach career goals, ways to think about marketing to the public, how to best approach galleries and museums, and everything you need to know to develop your business as a professional working artist.

Crista Cloutier will be teaching this one-day course. For ten years she directed Segura Publishing Company in the USA, running her own award-winning art gallery whilst also selling art to museums and galleries throughout the world. Crista has worked with some of the most significant contemporary artists working today and also helped many emerging artists develop their careers. She now writes for the Guardian online and work as a consultant to artists and galleries in both the UK and the USA.
