Obituary. Ann Holdway

by Sue Howes

Ann died unexpectedly in early December 2011.

I first met Ann when I joined the art group at Ripley Arts Centre.  Ann was always welcoming and interested in what everybody else was doing.

She always called her beautiful watercolour ink paintings `experiments` and was never completely satisfied with what she had achieved.  She had a very distinctive style and an innate sense of colour.  Colours were often vibrant and she was happy to allow the paint to do its’ own thing – to see what happened!

Her sense of colour pervaded her work with mosaics.  She was always conscious of the design and artistic aspect of mosaics.  She worked tirelessly for BAMM – mosaic society – organising exhibitions at a national level.
Although she wasn’t a Bromley resident, she organised Creative Bromley last year.

She had great drive, boundless energy and was passionate about promoting the visual arts and crafts. There are few people I have ever known who had such drive and vitality as Ann.

She had been secretary of Bromley Art Society for many years and had recently volunteered to organise exhibitions for us.
She was always full of enthusiasm, finding new challenges and searching out new venues for exhibitions, happy to explore any avenue which would extend coverage of the visual arts.

It was Ann who found out about SEOS and encouraged Tessa and me to join and open my studio! We are going to miss her greatly!

All at SEOS wish to convey their condolences to Ann’s family and friends
