Biography

Anoushka Cole is an artist and maker. Her processed based practice uses raw materials and her research has key themes of sustainability and resource use.

Anoushka’s previous experience and education in Textiles and Material Futures informs her material investigations to create work that explores both the urban and rural landscape. She harnesses accessible organic waste streams to create her own materials and develop plant based dyes and earth pigments for both relief and screen printing applications.

Her linear prints explore similar themes of translating her landscape and environment into repetitive patterns, exploring our heritage material cultures and traditional craft practices. Her hands on research aims to build more resilient making knowledge, regaining a bond to the earth. This process driven exploration is site specific and reflects the physical environment that each project is situated in, often working with abundant organic waste or traveling to a specific location to work with local natural resources.

Alongside her studio practice Anoushka works at Chelsea College of Art, UAL where she has recently built a Biomaterial Lab for the Textiles Programme. She previoulsy spent 2 years developing a Material Lab and Library at the maker space, Green Lab. This facility offered a community work space for both students and practitioners exploring material research focussed projects. She teaches workshops focused on biomaterials, printmaking, material making and plant dyes, sharing knowledge, accessible methods of researching and open source learning.
