Biography
My ceramics journey started over forty years ago when I moved to South Korea and fell in love with the simplicity of form often seen in Asian pottery.
This has inspired my work ever since – pushing me to create my personal take on modern, functional, Japanese & Korean influenced stoneware – ranging from teabowls, ramen and serving bowls, small and large plates, to varying sizes of jugs and vases. Each of my pieces is unique – using a variety of glazes and texture, from subtle blue and greens, to bold layered vibrant colours.
My time in Korea led me to completing the Korean Ceramics module of a Fine Arts degree at Ewha Women’s University in Seoul – 1990-1993. It was during that time that I learnt many traditional Korean ceramic techniques I use today; such as inlaid carving, slipware and sgraffito.
