Biography
Maria is an award winning, Kent based artist, graduating from Ravensbourne College of Art, in 1984. Working as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator for many years, she now works exclusively in the field of Fine Art, taking commissions and teaching Art for over 12 years.
As a teacher she is practiced in all mediums but works predominantly in oils and soft pastels where portraiture and wildlife feature heavily, often combing the two. Maria is guided by an appreciation for storytelling, narratives serve at the heart of her work, with which she seeks to fill her paintings with ideas and conceptual depth. Her inspiration is derived from the works of the Pre-Raphaelites for their mastery of representation and depiction of a narrative.
Maria has exhibited in Kent, London and Nottingham. In 2024, she exhibited at The Gallery at Green & Stone, Chelsea, The Nottingham Society of Art and currently at The Gallery Holt in Norfolk. Maria was awarded 2nd place SAA Artist of the Year and shortlisted for The Women In Art Prize for her portraiture. In 2025, she is exhibiting at The Gallery at Green & Stone, in their ‘Works on Paper exhibition’. Maria has also had two pieces selected for the Wales Contemporary this year, which will be exhibiting in London in February and Wales in March. She has also been selected by the Society of Graphic Fine Art to exhibit with them in Mall galleries in London in March 2025.
