Biography

I describe myself as an Artist-Turner, whose practice is process-led with an open approach to design and implementation. Growing up within a family of makers, I often found myself between two spheres of art: The Conceptual and the Aesthetic.

Following on from a Foundation at UCA Rochester where I surrounded myself with product Designers and other 3-D Disciplines, I Graduated from De Montfort University in 2016 with a Fine Art BA Hons. After this time, I found myself moving in different circles until I began to re-engage with the Practice of Wood Turning, something I had explored as a child.

For a while I kept the conceptual practice I had developed during my Degree and my Turning separate, to respect both parts of my life equally.  But I began to realise that both shared a common goal, which is to understand material. To be able to create and encourage dialogue which looks to engage us directly with each material in use, each process utilised.

Because of this my work aims to bring about ways in which I can progress my own understandings of form, function, and material. The practice itself becomes very fluid and adaptable; each project revolving around a new observation to explore. The method of Turning and Wood itself have become subjects to scrutinise and explore.

Unfortunately I will not be demonstrating, as I may not always be present, and am unable to offer tuition. A selection of my work will  however always be available in the Gallery at Sandhurst Farm Forge throughout our studio opening times.
