Feast of Food

Some dozen artists will be interpreting this theme with oils, acrylics, watercolours, prints, pastels, photography, sculpture, pottery, ceramics and cabinetmaking. Artists taking part are Debra Barr-Smith, Karen Birt, Angela Bishop, Aggy Boshoff, Julia Brudenell, Julie Childs, Lindsay Connors, Pauline Cunningham, Ann Kay, John Lucas, Irene Marsland, Maggie McCormack, Hazel McNair, Margaret Mountfield and Janet Wilkes.

Treats for your eyes will include Lindsay Connor’s oil painting “Mound of M & M’s” an exquisitely observed and sensual rendering of these sweets to a larger than life scale. Angela Bishop has interpreted the theme in an expertly and wittily fashioned sculpture entitled “Happy Hour.” Debra Barr-Smith uses gouache in her exuberant and colourful “Sunday Lunch.” Aggy Boshoff, who has recently completed a book on oil painting shows her expertise in a painting called “Crab and Prawns.” Hazel McNair conducts annual painting holidays from her second home in Jamaica. She concentrates on lush tropical colour and cacophony of mingled texture and shape. Her pictures show fruit and vegetable markets from the country side in Ochos Rios. “Afternoon Tea at Shaw Park Hotel, Jamaica” is a fine example of her themes. “Harvest” and “Four Pink Ladies” are a fine pair of delicate watercolours accomplished by Margaret Mountfield.

All of the artists involved in this exhibit are those who participate in South East Open Studios—an annual June Event, when, for two weeks, 250 artists across Kent and Sussex open their studios for the exhibition and sale of their work. They welcome members of the public into their studio during this fortnight, but this is your chance to see examples of their work before next summer.

Bradbourne School has recently earned status and sponsorship as a Special School for the Development of the Arts. As well as encouraging a high standard of arts education within the school, there is also a determination to involve local artists and members of the public to enhance art awareness and development in the community. \r\nSeveral high-quality exhibitions have taken place over the last year in the superb new gallery space the main entrance area of the school.

Do come along to the “Feast of Food” Exhibition at Bradbourne School this Winter. Opening times are 10am to 5pm on weekdays from Monday, 20th November to Thursday, 14th December.
