'Avignon' 40 x 50cm mixed media painting/collage inspired by a trip to Avignon. Where I have re-used a previously painted canvas, the charm of the cobbled square dappled in sunlight is juxtaposed with the fading forms of lilacs that give glimpses of it previous story.

'Love at the Fairground' 40 x 50cm on board. A painting based on a series of emotional responses that influence my memories, incorporating handwritten text and a depth of colour and mark-making. Available at Art & Space Gallery in Tenterden.

'As Time Stands Still' 40cm x 50cm on canvas. Bright red and yellow fresh blooms in blue vase on a background of layered collage and paint. Whenever I look at this painting it transports me back to memories of my Grandma, I can't explain why but every time it takes me there.

Biography

I am an artist and art student based in Tunbridge Wells in Kent. Studying fine art as part of my practice creates opportunities to push me in new directions that continually inform my ideas. I have a broad interest in style and enjoy the freedom and spontaneity of my work, responding to colour, emotions and my own experiences. Personal connection is an important part of my work and this is incorporated through connections in my materials, found items or quiet details, I pause to notice.

During the time my children were growing up, I pursued my passion for creating, by re-purposing found or used items and furniture. Using found items that bring a previous story have continued to evoke a curiosity in me. My commitment to sustainability is reflected in my work through up-cycling practices such as re-using previous works and making handmade paper from my old sketches, paintings and paper scraps. My approach emphasizes re-purposing existing materials while retaining subtle elements of their original history.

I began formal art studies in 2017, and have continued to develop my practice through further training and am now currently studying for a Fine Art degree. My work is characterized by expressive colour, layered textures, and an intuitive approach, often inspired by flowers, landscapes, architecture, and personal experience.

I have been a member of the Tunbridge Wells Art Society for the last 4 years and currently run the weekly Acrylic painting sessions for its members, that explore a variety of subjects, styles and techniques. I am able to support others in their creative development while continuing to evolve my own practice.

I love the freedom painting offers me for self-expression, indulging in the unexpected ways paint and collage can create texture and random marks that emerge during the creative process. I use a mix of media such as paper, acrylic paint, charcoal, spray paints, acrylic inks and pastels, often applying paints straight from the tube onto the surface, I love the unstructured interweave of colour and marks this creates, engaging and inviting me to respond and further develop taking on either a figurative or abstract presence.

I have completed several commissioned works and promote my work locally through exhibitions and art fairs, my website, social media and referrals.
