Biography
The unexpected free time, head space and the fact that the studio belongingto her father (artist Graham Clarke) was temporarily empty during the Covid induced lockdown of 2020 led to an enforced sabbatical from her work as a well travelled dj and UK based broadcaster and the setting up of her own brand ‘Super Natural Thing’. She began screen printing and hand dyeing organic garments, and bags. She then made use of the ancient Cogger press in the studio and began letterpress printing and acrylic painting on handmade paper, making mixed media pieces with layers of painted paper and hand printed type.
Numerous commissions followed including album art designs for record labels together with bespoke works for private customers. Opportunities to exhibit her work soon followed at The Woodbridge Festival of Art & Music, Linden Hall Studio, Deal and West End House, Smarden.
‘I love the imperfections of the hand printing process, the deckle edges and torn edges of the handmade paper and the vibrant colours and how they combine together. Colours and textures are key in my work. I draw inspiration from nature and the sea, together with the shapes and colours of seemingly mundane everyday items that catch my eye and draw me in.’
Together with her own work in art and music Abi continues to curate comprehensive retrospective exhibitions honouring her father’s monumental 60 year career as an artist, author and illustrator.
