Biography

I’ve recently taken up painting again after a long hiatus. I had forgotten what I knew from before, and there was lots I didn’t know anyway! I’ve been experimenting with different subjects over the last year.

I like painting interiors, landscapes and other things that inspire me. Sometimes I work from photos, but last summer I started sketching outside which I really enjoy. When I paint in oils, I like the really vibrant colours and that you can move the paint around a lot. I usually paint a base coat in a colour which will support or deliberately jar with my subject matter. It can also add depth or sometimes I leave sections of the base layer exposed to tie the theme of the painting together. With watercolours I’m learning more fluidity in my mark making and I think that will inform my oil paintings going forward too.
