Forge Taster Sessions       May  2025—-September 2025

My work in the Forge these days is mostly to produce my own artwork for Exhibitions, but during the summer months  of May to September I offer “2 hour”  “One to One” Forge taster sessions. If you are interested and for further information please contact me.

The cost of a 2 hour session is £50.00  All materials are included in the session fee.

For your taster session it is wise to wear jeans, and a long-sleeved top. No nylon please.  Also, a good pair of stout boots.

An apron, gloves and goggles/over glasses will be provided.  The session will include a variety of techniques to finish up with a small, finished piece such as a hook or leaf keyring. It will all depend upon how the session develops.

Using the hammer for two hours can be strenuous on the wrist, elbow and hands, so if you have any issues with regards to gripping tools etc your two-hour session may have to be shortened, or the Blacksmith will step in to finish your piece!! Hopefully you will have no problems!  Sessions usually do run over the two hours, but there is no extra charge. It is a relaxed fun session.

I have over 50 years experience as a working  Artist Blacksmith, while in my younger days practicing as a Farrier and Agricultural Blacksmith. So the aim of these sessions is to pass on some quality skills, to show how steel can be beautifully manipulated when hot.

Biography

Charles Dickinson -Artist Blacksmith

My working life has always been to make and repair objects that have a function. After mainly working to commission, I now find myself having the opportunity, as an Artist Blacksmith to enjoy the challenge of making objects purely for their aesthetic appearance. Not only using alternative metals, such as copper, but experimenting, and presenting a mixed media approach. My ethos has always been that I should finish my work to the highest standard possible, using all the skills acquired over a lifetime of blacksmithing.
