Biography
Charlie enjoys exploring different ways to create form and texture. She uses a variety of firing methods to create dramatic patterns on the clay body, often using organic materials to mark the clay. Her most recent body of work involves experimental work using porcelain slip. The methods used in the creation of this collection push the boundaries of porcelain, creating eggshell-thin vessels that appear as if they might crumble at a touch. Experimenting with various firing techniques to create striking effects on the clay, tests the resilience of the vessels under pressure and often leads to surprising results. This creative journey has involved months of refinement and numerous learning opportunities. The outcome is a collection of delicate yet beautiful objects that reveal different aspects of their character in any given light.
