Edd Cattell

“Through the Door” draws the viewer into a moody corridor, where dark, shadowy walls contrast with a vivid burst of light spilling from an open doorway at the end. The interplay of rich, saturated colors and deep darkness creates a sense of mystery and tension. It asks a simple but powerful question: Should I enter, or not? This piece invites contemplation on choice, fear, and the unknown that lies beyond."Spoils of the Journey" is an abstract oil painting that transforms the remnants of a painter’s struggle into a compelling visual statement. Using the discarded elements—failed attempts, missteps, and discarded brushstrokes—the work re-imagines the so-called "waste" of the creative process into a powerful composition. Layered with vibrant swaths of color and textured strokes, the piece reflects the notion that artistic growth often arises from failure. The Layers of Love - An abstract acrylic painting composed of hundreds of individually painted squares, forming a vibrant love heart that radiates with movement and emotion. Set against a black background streaked with gold and white light, the heart appears to pulse with energy — a visual metaphor for how love is formed: piece by piece, moment by moment. This artwork was a labour of patience, precision, and passion — the most time-intensive creation in my collection."Realisation" explores the profound moment of awakening to one's true potential as an artist. The harsh deep red sphere represents obstacles overcome in the search for self-understanding with the bright mindful thoughts peering out and finding traction as realisation emerges. This piece invites viewers to reflect on their own moments of realisation, emphasizing that true artistry flourishes when we recognize and embrace our unique perspectives.“Beauty from the Waste” is a raw, street-art-inspired painting built from leftover oil paint used in past works. A bold heart and the word LOVE emerge from the chaos, turning discarded materials into something vibrant and emotional — a gritty celebration of beauty born from the remnants.'Colour Bomb' This piece is an explosion of colour using 3D sculpture and acrylic paint to create an intense feeling of power and energy.'Out of the Darkness" is an abstract representation of liberation and transformation. At its core, deep black evokes the overwhelming gravity of a black hole, pulling everything into its void. As the piece radiates outward, these dark tones fracture and give way to bursts of vibrant color—fiery oranges, bright yellows, and electric blues—symbolizing the escape of light and energy. The dark center explodes into bright and light colours suggesting a journey from confinement to freedom, from darkness to light.'Origin of energy' reflects thoughts on energy and the power of energy within us and all around us. Whether it's internal human energy or external energy throughout everything there must be an Origin."Empowerment" delves into the transformative journey of self-affirmation as an artist. The vibrant colors symbolize the uplifting energy of creativity emerging from behind the harsh deep red representing doubt and insecurity. This piece invites viewers to embrace their own power, emphasizing that true artistry flourishes through self-acceptance and confidence.'Burst of Being' captures the powerful surge of inner energy breaking into motion. Layers of acrylic and oil paint flow and collide from a radiant centre, reflecting a personal release — a moment of becoming. The textured wooden board adds resistance and rhythm, amplifying the sense of movement and force. This piece speaks to the unstoppable power within us all, pushing outward with purpose, chaos, and life.'Re-Entry' captures explosive radiant energy in motion. Bold sweeps of vibrant yellows, oranges, and pinks cascade across the piece, creating dynamic movement that pulses with life. Oil paint on wood panel with rich, textured strokes. Presented in an exquisite original patina antique plaster frame with ornate baroque detailing. It has a 3d relief that is hard to capture in photos but adds to the visual intensity when viewed in person.
