Biography

About 3 years ago, I took up painting again after a long hiatus. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know paint again!

I like painting interiors, landscapes, still life and other things that inspire me. Sometimes I work from photos, but now I also sketch outside which I really enjoy. When I paint in oils, I like the really vibrant colours and that you can move the paint around a lot. I usually paint a base coat in a colour which will support or deliberately jar with my subject matter. It can also add depth or sometimes I leave sections of the base layer exposed to tie the theme of the painting together.

With watercolours I’m learning more fluidity in my mark making. I love the serendipity of watercolours – you can’t always predict how the paint will interact and that is the beauty of it. I like when the colours blur, or overlap, or just create a sense of depth quite unexpectedly.

I do like a remote landscape, or cottage. or even a road or path just leading off into the distance. Somehow these scenes invite you into them, and I like creating spaces where you can make your own story up.
