Biography

Carole’s paintings are inspired by her natural surroundings of fields, orchards and woodland. Her painting technique is loose and experimental. She enjoys working in either watercolour alone or freely combining media, especially inks, gouache, pastels and currently water soluble oils. She uses paint fluidly, allowing it to flow freely and then employs a wide variety of tools to draw and create texture. She adds and washes away, frequently regarding the subject as a point of departure towards the resolution of an exciting, final image.

Carole also enjoys the challenge of producing digital art, which is professionally printed as high quality limited edition prints.  Using her paintings as a starting point, she combines, enhances and alters them in various ways. The results are often surprising, abstracted and with vibrant colour combinations; transformed from their origins, they frequently inspire new work in a circular fashion.

Carole was trained at Central St. Martin’s School of Art, in London and had a first career as a freelance illustrator working for major London publishers.  She is also a qualified teacher and author. In 2019 she was commissioned by Search Press Ltd to write her first book, ‘Painting Expressive Landscapes’ and her second book, ‘Painting in Abstract’ was published in 2024. Copies of both books will be available to browse at this year’s open studio.
