Biography

Karen Bourne MA
My practice revolves around the use of words and image to express the stillness of an observation in nature. It is a way of creating a doorway or window to express that fleeting moment in time, a pause for reflection in our often fast paced and busy world.

Working with words and image has been central to my career, first as a graphic designer, then as a calligrapher and now as an artist. I was introduced to writing haiku poetry many years ago and immediately connected with its simplicity, discipline and traditional focus on nature. I enjoy the process of layering colour along with the words and image to echo that first moment of observation.
