Biography
The characteristics of the materials I use form the foundations of my practice. I am drawn to their physical qualities and enjoy exploring how those properties move in new directions. My studio is filled with collected objects and fragments, many of which find their way into my work.
My work is informed by the earth and natural processes, including erosion, layering, exposure and concealment, as well as growth, creation and decay. It rewards slow looking, revealing layers, hidden depths and occasional glimpses of brightness beneath the surface. I am interested in creating work that evokes remembered sensations rather than specific places – the quiet wonder of standing before a landscape and sensing its scale, history and atmosphere.
I currently work with oil and cold wax, drawn to the depth and subtlety that layering allows. The material offers both resistance and fragility, enabling me to negotiate surface, texture and translucency.
