Biography
Maria is a Kent based artist who studied Illustration and Graphic Design at Ravensbourne College of Art. Working in the commercial art field for many years, she now works as a fine artist, taking commissions and teaching.
Narrative sits at the heart of her work, which is largely executed in either oils or soft pastels. Her work focuses on relationships, in all its forms. Central to her process is understanding the inner conflict and struggles that determine the path of those connections and how these are very often woven into our persona during childhood. Expression and gaze play an important part in her work as she aims to capture an emotion that is relatable. The direct gaze is often used for the purpose of intimacy and engagement.
