Buildings and landscapes inform the imagery, with textures, smells and shapes combining to form an eclectic visual memory of the island. Lush greenery and architectural features sit side by side, while multiple drawings are worked into a gessoed surface, competing for space and attention. Layers of opaque and semi-translucent oil and acrylic paint interact so that the first image perceived is not the only one. A dialogue between hard and soft surfaces plays throughout the work, reinforcing the tension between structure and organic growth.
